Mod support would have also been nice. They reworked the environments, lighting, and animal behavior, which makes for a nice change and helps it feel fresh. It is also much more stable than the PC version, which is also a great improvement. It's definitely worth checking out. This is one of the best crafting, survival, exploration games i've ever played, and this is the best version of it. No other game has captured the feeling of being trapped in an alien, underwater environment quite as well as Subnautica. It's scary, it's fun, and it's entertaining.

Fantastic game, where we have a complete immersion in the story. The scenarios are beautiful and very well diversified. Simply sensational.

The ps5 is more then capable of handling far more complex games. Yet there are bugs, glitches , fps drops , lots of pop in. The game at one point was crashing on my every 1- 5 minutes . When it works it's an amazing experience. But due to the numerous issues I cannot recommend this unless you're extremely patient, because the game is still worth playing.

Loved the experience of diving deeper and deeper into the creepy depths, seeing something weird move out of the corner of your eye. There’s a big difficulty spike towards the end of the game, and that’s my biggest negative, but as long as you use a guide when you need to go really deep (past 900m), you won’t be bothered by that. The ending was very satisfying.

Thankfully it came for free from Sony, so at least I can just delete it without feeling bad. I tried it recently because it got great reviews, and it was kind of just what I expected: a semi-boring survival game with a lot of gathering and re-gathering resources, a lot of walking (or in this instance, swimming) around with only a thin story for alibi. Then I got an invite to another game, I pressed ok, played around a bit, and the next day when I wanted to give one more chance Subnautica... it turned out that it doesn't have any auto-save. So 4 hours of gameplay (and not even very interesting gameplay)... GONE! Thanks for the joke. This is the reason we should have demos.

After this game I believe the bar will be set really high for the next one to beat it.The atmosphere is fantastic and I was always amazed at how far I was able to push the game's performance. Everything is seamlessly connected without any loading screens. Indeed there are some pop ins but nothing gamebreaking. The story is excellent and lastly at the end, you feel you leave your own mark on this incredible alien world. I can't wait to star playing below zero.

While Subnautica remains a brilliantly immersive and addictive survival adventure, the PS5 upgrade delivers less than we expected. Technically, the game is very similar to its successor, Subnautica: Below Zero, and yet falls short on both performance and visual quality in comparison. A free upgrade is always welcome, but perhaps Subnautica PS5 has automatically been made redundant by its superior sequel. Existing Subnautica players with a PS5 get a nice facelift, but there's little to justify this edition for newcomers.

The optimization is just careless and the constant bugs, crashes and low fps make playing this game not that enjoyable. The graphs aren't great but still better than most switch games.
While the spin-off “Below Zero” feels more modern, this survival adventure classic is still fascinating - and is mostly well executed on Switch.
This is what you call a port. Yeah a graphically downgrade but that's not why you play games on the switch. My scored is based on handheld mode
When Unknown Worlds announced they were bringing this one to Switch we were hugely excited, this is one of our all-time favourite games after all, but it was excitement tempered with a degree of scepticism as to how on earth they'd manage to cram the entire experience onto Switch in a properly playable manner. As it turns out, we needn't have worried as this is a super solid port that - besides a few loading stutters here and there and some scenery pop-in that's present in every other version of the game - successfully delivers one of the very best survival experiences on any platform to Nintendo's hybrid console.
Subnautica is a survival and narrative experience that stands as a benchmark for the genre. The Switch version itself certainly has its drawbacks, but not enough to weigh down the experience too much. Some of them do admittedly affect gameplay mildly, but the strength of Subnautica still pushes through.

The only reason I am giving this phenomenal game a 9 and not a 10 is because I simply encountered too many bugs for it to be a ten.
Subnautica is not without its issues, but it successfully manages to combine a strong sense of exploration and discovery with an interesting story hook and an exceptional soundtrack to make it one of the very best examples of the genre.
Subnautica is a fantastic exploring and survival game that I cannot wait to dive deeper into, but it is in desperate need of a patch that fixes the pop-in and framerate. I’ve completed a lot of what the game has to offer, but I know there is so much more of this ocean planet to explore. I learned of a fear I have that I didn’t know existed, and learning about that fear makes me respect guys like Jacques Cousteau and the guy in search of the blue diamond in Titanic so much more.
I felt that Subnautica could do with a little more work to iron out these performance problems to make it even more fluid and seamless, which would then make it then a top contender in the survival genre.
Subnautica achieves with good decisions to build a survival rich in nuances and possibilities, without ever losing any interest, staying true to its objective. A game that opens up little by little showing imagination and finesse. Rarely this genre in its late game has managed to engage so much without trusting in its multiplayer facet.
If you're into resource gathering, crafting and exploring, then Subnautica is simply a title that you have to play. The wonderfully colorful and diverse environments invite exploration. Using all of the technology available and being able to create your own habitats and vehicles just encourage you to voyage further.
Even after four years of early access limbo, Subnautica remains as one of the quintessential examples of its genre. The uniquely beautiful and terrifying world is fantastic to explore, while the goal based narrative keeps things interesting beyond the usual plate spinning mechanics of other survival games.
Subnautica is a fantastic survival game, and we could only ask for some minor technical issues to be polished on the console versions. It’s a game that could and should run better on Xbox One, particularly on the X, but the great core experience remains untouched.

There’s a huge underwater world for you to explore and when exploring nooks and crannies you always tend to get a very rewarding feeling. I found the crafting elements in the game to be very enjoyable and I must admit that I was surprised by the amount of depth present here. Each aspect of the game’s story has been cleverly designed and the thought and effort placed into the story keeps it interesting throughout. In terms of content the game has a decent amount for you to get to grips with and you’ll no doubt return back to the game time and time again. Every now and then the game suffers with a few technical issues and whilst none of them are game-breaking they can impact on the immersion levels a little. It takes a bit of getting used to at the start and the slow pacing at the start can be a little tedious. Subnautica was in the Xbox Game Preview program for quite a while but I never played the game when it was in that process, but in some ways I wish I had now. Subnautica is a game focused on exploration and survival and I’m pleased to say that they get these aspects spot on. For me exploring always felt rewarding and the underwater world in which the game takes place in is huge and full of secrets along the way. The content the game has then never felt aimless and I must admit that I was surprised by how much content the game had. Accompanying this content is a story that’s not only worth finding out about but it also makes sense as well and this in turn made it stay interesting throughout my time with the game. As mentioned earlier the game features a survival side to it and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much depth the crafting elements have. This depth means then that crafting always felt important and whilst it takes a bit to get going at the start you soon find out that working your way through this slow-pace is very worthwhile. At the end of the day then Subnautica ticked a lot of boxes for me and in many ways it offers a unique experience and when it’s all said and done I can’t recommend this game enough to you. Thumbs up!
Despite the performance issues, Subnautica is definitely a title that you shouldn't sleep on. The open world exploration and survival mechanics are on point, and the world is massive, deep, and rich in detail; it's just a shame that it's being held back a little bit by problems with how it runs.
It isn’t without performance hiccups, especially the deeper you go. But the breadth of content here and the open-world nature both in terms of playspace and just pure choice in how you go about it is something rarely seen in games.
Subnautica is an inspired survival game with a great atmosphere and a surprising narrative. On PS4, however, the game is not as smooth as we had hoped and suffers from sometimes cumbersome controls.
I was blown away by Subnautica. What initially appeared to be a knee-high kiddie pool worth of depth, suddenly gives way to a literal ocean of gameplay opportunities.
Subnautica is hands down the best survival game I have ever experienced. I completely lost track of time while playing it and for the first time in ages I rescheduled my appointments and neglected my responsibilities to spend more time with a game. If I could I would hand out free copies in the streets so as many people as possible can see how ridiculously good Subnautica is.
Subnautica is an atmospheric, wonderful survival game full of surprises. You never know what to expect every time you dive in the depths of the ocean.

Subnautica was a massively hyped game for me after whatching countless hours on you tubers play it. What i got was a confusing, crashing and deliorus expierence. These are the bad points, constant crashing, annoying grinding of resources, constant lag and the game not loading in, and pointless quests that lead to knowhere untill late game. However the game does have some decent attributes. A great atmosphere, you fell lost in a world surrounded by ocean in an almost cast away feel to it. The creature design is amazing, and that comes from expierencing what they are, if there friendly and what can they do. Building is satisfying but so etimes awkward, and when story rolls around eventually it is good but cant be told without looking at pdfs which can get annoying. Its a decent game but i personly would wait for a few patches, or dive right in but its up to you.
Subnautica shows an almost perfect mix of survival, exploration and building. The story is so beautifully woven into the game, without being forced on the player.
Subnautica is a very, very, very good game for fans of the survival genre. There is a near endless deluge of things to do and see and a vast, dangerous ocean to explore. It’s not uncommon to alternate between sheer dread and speechless wonder as you make your through this underwater wonderland. However, lackluster VR support and an overall density problem in terms of complexity and lack of direction at times hold Subnautica back from true greatness.

And best indie title for almost a decade! Great atmosphere, great graphics, attention to detail. Amazing what this little studio did with a small budget, compared to "the big guys". They made a competitive shooter called "Natural Selection 2" as well - be sure to check it out if you like fast-paced FPS action. :-)
Subnautica is an exceptional game of exploration, crash-landing the player on an unknown planet with unfamiliar terrain, unexplored depths, and strange wildlife. While some smaller creatures will appear more afraid of you, it's the larger predators that will make your oxygen levels quickly drop with the increased heart rate. It's a game that captivates you as soon as you step out of the lifeboat with the gorgeous water effects and stunning environment.
Subnautica manages to juggle being gorgeous, rewarding, addictive, mysterious, and fun, whilst also being unbelievably terrifying.
