By far, Farming Simulator 17 represents the best of the agricultural sims to be found on the PC. However, it seems the developers are are well aware that each of their creations will be considered the best of the genre and use this as an excuse to be lazy, having objects interact with each other in only the most minor of ways. This leads to ridiculous and cartoonish behavior of player controllable vehicles. Not to mention they have a history of charging a lot for minor content DLC. The games feel like a developer taking their audience for granted instead of striving to make their game the best it could be. But at its core, Farming Simulator 17 is thoroughly enjoyable, and does a great job of providing you with the freedom to manage your farm any way you see fit. With a little more work, the next incarnation of this game could take audiences by storm.

Despite all the simplifications (e.g. plants need just a couple of days to grow) there’s something addictive about FS17 that makes you switch off your thinking and just farm, farm, farm.

Farming Simulator 17 is excellent, and has already become my number one go-to “Zen game”. If I’ve had a stressful day, or if I’m just feeling particularly anxious, I can stick Netflix on and quietly tend to my perfect little farm. With its attention to detail, wonderful environments and depth of simulation, if a quiet, relaxing time looking after a farm is something you’d be interested in, you’d be hard-pressed to find something that better fits the bill than this.

Every moment I was chained to this game was misery, and I wouldn't play it again if they paid me the money instead of the other way around.

Farming Simulator 17, as with most simulation games, will not be for everyone. If you are a fan of the Farming Simulator series, this year’s version is not majorly different than previous versions, but there are enough graphical and tactile upgrades to keep returning players interested. Many bugs have been fixed too. New players may enjoy the planning, management and logistics of owning and running a farm. Either way, Farming Simulator 17 is now the best way to play a farming simulation game.

Make no mistake, Farming Simulator 17 is incredibly in-depth as a simulator, almost to the point of being too complicated, but as a game it’s simply not all that entertaining, unless of course you’re all about that farming life. That’s not to say I didn’t find some enjoyment in my time with it, but it was when I was doing things unintended. At the end of the day if you’re looking for an authentic farming simulator, there’s no better out there, but the amount of fun you’re going to have is based on how much fun you find in actually farming.

Farming Simulator 17’s odd mix of authenticity and not-quite simulation is curious. The core gameplay loop is by its very nature extremely repetitive but if you have an interest in farming you’ve probably already bought into the idea. It’s certainly not a bad game but it’s definitely an acquired taste.

Right now Farming Simulator 17 is the best game for virtual farming rookies. It's simply a good game with a surprisingly good technical side (for this genre, of course) and a quite diverse gameplay. Unfortunately - veterans of the series won't find anything new. Farming Simulator is in the same place it was 2 years ago. It only works better.

After ploughing through the tutorials though and spending a little more time, you do start to appreciate just how detailed a game like this is.

While the improvements to the farm are nice and the plethora of new equipment, animals, visuals, and other additions go a long way to making Farm Simulator 17 the best, it’s also still resting on the same foundation.

Without any doubt, this is the best Farming Simulator ever. It's not perfect, but adds a few key elements to improve the unique experience.

With over 250 vehicles and equipment, Farming Sim 17 is bigger and better than ever. Although it’s still not going to be a game for everybody, this edition is more accessible and complete than ever before. Gamers that have no interest in slow-paced repetitive gameplay will likely be disappointed, but for those that enjoyed the previous games will find that there’s just about enough new features to justify a purchase.

It's still an acquired taste, and you're going to need to be patient to get the most out of it, but if you've ever dreamed of being an agricultural extraordinaire, then this is a series now very much in its hay-day.
