If you are a GRID fan and want to have lots of fun with the newest entry of the series, GRID Legends is a nice addition to your library. But if you are looking for a more realistic approach instead of an arcade one, maybe you should probably look elsewhere.

GRID Legends doesn't do anything particularly new or ambitious, opting to stay close to the series' strong structure and add more content compared to its predecessor. More ambition would certainly be help to draw more attention to it, but regardless, it's still an excellent racing title.

Grid Legends is a distinguished racing game, specially by its story in the "documentary" style - one of the best I've seen in games of the genre - despite being cliché and leaving the player in the background. This is a great racing game. It's a shame it was "squeezed" into a season with many equally excellent games vying for attention. Going head to head against Forza Horizon 5 and Gran Turismo 7 isn't easy, but Grid Legends brings its own identity and shows that the genre has much more to offer.

Grid Legends is designed for experienced fans as well as beginners, offering the enjoyment needed to be successful in this franchise.

All too often racing games follow the standard formula. Throw some fast cars and a bunch of tracks together, and gamers will probably enjoy themselves in silence. But when developers step off the beaten path, something magical can happen. This is the case with GRID Legends. Despite its shortcomings – the low difficulty, to name just one thing - it is one of the more enjoyable racing games of the moment.

There are times when I want to play a racing game that requires a wheel and incredibly nuanced changes to my car's setup. GRID Legends provides a counterpoint to that style, and it's a ball of fun that never feels like it loses focus on being a competitive racing game. It's a racing game that isn't afraid to become a spectacle, while at the same time managing to take itself seriously in the areas that matter. The story mode is the flashiest, but the game remains just as compelling in any other mode. GRID Legends is a great excuse to have some automotive fun.

It’s an above-average experience, and one that is worth checking out if you’re a fan of arcade racers. The driving is fast, frenetic and fun, and there’s quite a bit of content to be found within. It also attempts to build on every aspect of the 2019 reboot, though I admittedly got into and enjoyed that game more.

Faultless presentation, an absolute raft of superb vehicles across 9 categories, 130 brilliantly rendered circuits in 22 international locations and a 6 hour story mode alongside a huge career and promising online play. But there's nothing here that hasn't been done before and there's a soulless tedium involved as a result which begs the question - why?

GRID: Legends is a good arcade racer, but it doesn't offer enough new stuff from the 2019 GRID game, making it quite a dispensable game. The comeback of drifting is cool, but the story mode is quite lame, and most of the content seems just to have been ported from the 2019 opus.

La parte della storia poteva essere realizzata meglio secondo me, a lungo andare è risultato ripetitivo avere sempre questi spezzoni di video tra una gara e l’altra, dove il più delle volte ho fatto fatica a capire il racconto della storia. Tutto sommato però è un titolo di corse che bisogna avere se vi piace questo genere. Io personalmente mi sono divertita molto e ci passerò ancora molto tempo, soprattutto per giocare in multiplayer e sfidarmi con gli amici! Ottimo lavoro!

The plot is no more detailed than a Saturday morning cartoon, in which you drive for a backmarker team that suddenly has the season of a lifetime! Yawn. The characters are one-dimensional and show no emotion, which results in a really grating experience as each FMV sequence has the intense emotional resonance of a Star Wars jedi council scene. The story itself also sometimes doesn't make sense - you're randomly told the rival team are "impossible to catch" and cheating, despite you winning every race up to that point. The world isn't fleshed out, you're never even introduced to the other teams beyond the main rival, and the forced diversity is just... weird. It's strange seeing an abundance of Chinese AI drivers in the game's equivalent to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.For the amount of money, time, and other resources they put into creating this story (if this was filmed during Covid - imagine the logistics), what they came up with could be eclipsed by middle school children told to write a racing story as a homework assignment.And it's a shame, because the underlying game is pretty good as a generic realistic arcade racer. The AI are tough but fair - a rarity in all types of racing games. Hell, they even have random events such as accidents or engine explosions which is really cool in longer races. There's a ton of cars & tracks to pick from - albeit most are asset flips from other Codies/SMS games - and the race creator UI is extremely user-friendly and probably the best I've ever used in a racing game.But they REALLY want you to care about the story. It dominates the box, the menus, and the characters continue to appear in races outside of "Driven to Glory." And I just can't. Stick with Grid 2019.

Grid Legends has a good driving model, but its career mode annoyed me with some awful design choices. The story mode is decent, but it’s narrative is so obvious, you instantly know how the thing ends. In terms of graphics, great weather effects contrast with some aged textures, while the game as a whole suffers from heavy recycling.

Grid Legends is certainly not a bad racing game and has a lot of redeeming qualities, yet it doesn’t quite live up to the high quality usually associated with Codemasters. Games like Forza Horizon 5 are more fun to play while the likes of F1 2021 and Dirt offer more realistic and challenging gameplay. The introduction of the unpredictable AI is a welcome step in the right direction, as are the improvements made compared to its predecessor. However, Grid Legends can’t shake a poor story mode that bogs down the action and will disappoint those expecting a cohesive and exciting narrative.

‘GRID Legends’ is a damn fun simcade racing game. While it’s not the most riveting story, ‘Driven to Glory’ is honestly a fun and intriguing story to make you want to keep going for hours and hours. The gameplay and overall game quality are solid, but not perfect, and visually it’s worth the time and energy ripping up the street or the track. EA and Codemasters are working to make this game evergreen with upcoming content and what they describe to be a cool online mode (didn’t report on that due it error issues on my end). This is definitely worth your time and money for sure.

The sheer amount of tracks, vehicle types with their own handling to master, and customization options are enough to make it a worthy successor to its predecessor. But the bonuses of the nemesis system returning, the outstanding soundtrack, and the flexible cross-play online functionality make it a great racing game in a more macro sense, too. While it misses an opportunity to really connect with a more original story mode and fails to fully leverage some of its more unique characteristics, it still provides a rewarding and adaptable racing game that burns up the track in the areas that matter most.

Grid Legends is a sure step up from Grid 2019 – and its new story mode that looks all the way back to 2002’s TOCA Race Driver is a cute and effective flex for a racing series with such history – but it's definitely treading water in some core areas.

While the story is harmless, it’s hard to take it seriously. Thankfully the on-track action is thrilling and varied, offering a robust online setup and everything you’d want from a new Grid game, even if some of the smaller details fall a little flat.

A return to arcade, a return to the docks, a return to drifting, and a return to putting fun above all else. This is what Grid should be about, enough fun to be had with the story and career modes, but an absolute hoon with a couple of mates in multiplayer.

And there is one more advantage of GRID Legends over its ancestor – graphics, obviously. Actually, the game looks really pretty on its own terms and won’t be ashamed in front of Forza or even Gran Turismo 7. Rain is especially well done; it may be the first time when I was impressed by weather effects nearly as much as in DriveClub (yup, the one released in 2014; this game still has stunning graphics). Also environments are very detailed and decorated with dense crowds of people or fireworks.

Grid Legends is a fun driving experience for fans, but it's pretty far from what Grid has always been for long time virtual drivers and has some ideas that needed a better refinement. Despite this, the game is enjoyable and full of contents to explore.

Much like the previous title released in 2019, GRID Legends will not revolutionize the history of racing games, but it is still very good arcade entertainment. If it does not go far enough in the depth of its career mode and in the possibilities of customizing the liveries, the title is on the other hand very complete on its most raw aspect.

Its racing gameplay is typically solid, as is the Codemasters way, but this studio has pushed the limits of the genre far higher in the past than it does with this relatively safe offering.

Codemasters has put a good amount of thought into reinventing the GRID experience. GRID Legends is no doubt the best GRID to date with the amount of new options and the power of the PlayStation 5 and added tech included. I simply had a lot of fun playing this as the racing model is as addictive as ever. The story mode deserves recognition due to its design and a solid enough story, but feels more like a tutorial to get players acclimated with the series. The visuals have highlights and lowlights, but the weather effects and the reflections are where it shines the best without having to implement ray tracing. The game needs to be experienced with a headset on this console and it also gives a possible idea of what a game that launches in a week might have in store. GRID Legends pushes the series forward with new additions while the core game remains intact.

While DIRT 5 and F1 2021 remain Codemasters' best racing games to date, GRID Legends runs a very close second, with an enjoyably daft Story mode, absorbing Career, and a wealth of options to fiddle with. Driven to Glory, indeed.

Ultimately, Grid Legends is a good pick-up-and-play experience, and folks motivated to grind through every challenge it has to offer will remain occupied for a while. That said, those with less patience for repetitiveness may be looking for the off-ramp sooner.
