The setting is done beautifully, soundtrack is great, gameplay is addictive and all the mechanics are well thought and rewarding. This is one of the very few games that can keep you playing even after finishing main story, which by itself is very good as well, though manages to have unsatisfying endings for both base game (especially) and expansion, but Ashes of Malmouth finally finishes the story properly instead if cutting it suddenly without any real ending like the base game does. There is a lot of secondary content to find along the way and a lot to read, artistically the game is very good. It was great when playing with second person through LAN. There are two very significant flaws though. One is that if you play in multiplayer like I did in LAN, due to dialogue system that gives you a choice that has consequences, only one player can talk with an NPC at a time, but choices and accepting/delivering quests applies to all characters in group. So essentially you have to read dialogues to other person, because both players cannot display them at the same time, and once quest is accepted the dialogue is gone. Another big flaw of the game is the ancient engine that is completely singlethreaded, meaning that even if you have high-end overclocked CPU, you are still going to suffer from massive performance issues during more intensive and dense scenes because game simply cannot utilize your resources. This is understandable for old games like Titan Quest, but Grim Dawn has 2016 release date. Though on the other hand, all games of this type are having exactly the same issue, just like all MMOs for example, with Diablo 3 being the only exception. Game itself is a 9, it does exactly what a game of this genre is supposed/expected to do and combining that with some considerable artistic/narrative qualities, but aforementioned issues are too extreme to ignore.

Grim Dawn can be like pulling the lever on a slot machine, the only difference being that the reward here isn’t cash but the gory explosion of beasts and the clink of loot-drops. I know from personal experience that this game has that certain something, and even if you think that you've grown tired of games of its ilk, Grim Dawn has enough tricks up its sleeve to charm even the most grizzled veteran.

Grim Dawn is a familiar, yet satisfying romp through a role-playing genre that's seen its fair share of innovations and dynamic methods to shoot and loot. Its setting is a nice change from the usual fantasy titles and its features and content are more than enough to keep you entertained for quite some time.

All in all, despite quite a lot of bugs and flaws, Grim Dawn is definitely a must-play if you are into Diablo or other similar action role-playing games like Divinity: Original Sin. The game is still pretty recent, and I have faith that the developers are working hard to fix the flaws and make this title even better.

There is no question that Grim Dawn moves along familiar lines: Base classes, a tragic world inhabited by monsters in a wide variety of flavors, nearly constant loot drops, action-oriented combat, somewhat "lite" yet interesting story, etc. Somehow, though, Grim Dawn just does it better than any other ARPG in recent memory.

So when I heard some of the developers from that game were developing a new aRPG I was immediately on-board.I was an early backer (2010), then Kickstarter backer, and have purchased the game for a few friends. It has more than lived up to the hype and exceeded all expectations. I played nearly 400 hours while it was in beta alone, and can't wait to actually, really start playing the game now that it is in full release.It has all the best elements of an old-school aRPG game, with some new mechanics to keep it fresh. The environment/climate is interesting, the classes are fairly archetypal but with a fresh spin, and the hunt for loot keeps you hungry for progression.The story is interesting and there is enough to keep those interested immersed. The graphics are very good - not amazing, but authentic for the type of game. Not cartoonish at all. The pace is great and there's enough play diversity to offer plenty of replayability. It's a great mix of challenge and depth.I recommend this game highly. I've only played as single player, but the game does offer co-op mulitplayer via local server connections (like Titan Quest - no online servers, yay)!PS - really looking forward to expansion AND the modding community once the game settles in.

There is real depth in the character customization with plenty of build options for all different play styles.Combine two of the currently available six classes to craft the character you want to play. Combine skills to create many synergies between any of the six.The Devotion system which was not something originally planned adds a really cool aspect of customization. Finding shrines in the world and restoring them grants points to devote to constellations with a huge variety of features; not just passive bonuses.Huge variety of gear in the way you would expect. In the true fashion of an ARPG you will find lots of bad gear. You will, however, find some gear you never want to get rid of, even though you eventually will. Some Rare, some Epic, and most Legendary gear will grant you new abilities to use; components, which you insert into gear, will allow you to double down on something or even out your weaknesses and some will grant you new abilities.The world has expanded immensely from what was originally planned. With additional acts and factions there is plenty more to do in the world of Cairn. Zones expanded and dungeons were added and every time it was very exciting. As more people joined Crate we got more art assets and the world really came to life.I can't say it all here but Crate Entertainment has created a masterpiece. I think will endure the same way the previous great ARPGs have. From a cult following to a game with many fans Grim Dawn has come a long way.Get out there and save humanity!
