Sure, ratings don't always matter, since people can have such wrong or bias opinions. But some of these negative reviews are comical.People are comparing it to Chrono Trigger, of course it may not be as classic or nostalgic like it, because the game is newer and a fresh take on what JRPG fans have been looking for in their games. It has pretty much all the elements to make up that JRPG you miss playing.For what it is, it is really well done. It doesn't make sense to knock it for its graphics either, because it's a niche genre and this is the style its fans are looking for. If it didn't have the backing of Square Enix, it would almost be an indie game as well, since it's made from a smaller company as well.So I can never understand how people can praise a game like UnderTale, with its even lower graphics and subpar story and silliness, but give low praise to a well done and beautiful game like this one. This is where bias comes in, especially towards JRPGs it seems, from Americans and those outside of Japan. Their standards are way too high or most people tend to look down on the JRPG genre.Other than that. This game has a beautiful and amazing score. An interesting array of characters from various walks of life. A compelling and deep story, with a post game tying up the true ending of the story. Then there's side stuff to do if you want to dive in some more into the game. The battle system is a lot of fun as well.

I went to the final boss levelled to the recommended amount with 8-9* upgraded equipment and it took me over 10 attempts to win- due to instant death. Lost Sphear brings back the Japanese RPG from the golden SNES era by taking Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 as an example. That does mean the game is filled with cliches, but you gotta love the nostalgic gameplay.

A simple, traditional RPG that will keep you busy for 20 hours or so.The cast is completely forgettable, the story makes absolutely no sense, the graphics are mediocre, the soundtrack is boring and there is a lot of backtracking to compensate for the fact that you have a very limited map to explore. The combat system is the only good thing about the game; there are some nice, fresh ideas there and some place to experiment. But, overall, Lost Sphere is one of the most mediocre and boring games I've played recently.I really regret getting it day one at full price. This game is worth 19 bucks at most. 50 is ridiculous.

Lost Sphear is an old school RPG made by those who have done I am Setsuna. The battle system is semi real-time. The graphics are 3/4 3D and are pretty to look at on PC. What I didn't like is that there was no real levelling system. You collects a lot of items in the game, but for the most part they serve very little purpose. The recipe system is very ordinary. The weapons and armour upgrades are barely interesting. And there is virtually no levelling system for the characters. So, under the hood this thing is pretty shallow. However the combat is decent and various, the story is ok until the fake ending...and after becomes very boring. I though it was quite ingenious at first, but the rest of the ending wasn't interesting emotionally and dragged a lot. I played until the very end, around 25 hours or so...I have mixed feelings, because I though it was fun but overall some aspects of the game were not very deep or polished. And the story was very uneven. I give a 70%, but this won't leave me with a good impression like Setsuna did.

I dislike it is only in combat and with no english voice over or subtitles for japanese. Combat animations and special effects are too good. Music is great. The first town seems simple graphically but when you see other scenarios there they are very well done. The gameplay is deep, taking old school mechanics and adding fresh new ideas. I dislike that there are few graphical options for PC. I am a Unity Developer and I enjoy seeing the good stuff they created using the engine. I didn't pay 50 for this game. I got it at 37.50 on Greenman gaming, day one edition. I couldn't tell if it is worth 50 bucks yet, but I definitely recommend the game. It has a few issues but a lot of good things.

Lost Sphear is a competently assembled retro product that may dredge up fond memories of older, better JRPGs, but it lacks a personality of its own. The unique, melancholy world of I Am Setsuna has been replaced by soulless tropes, and incrementally improved battle mechanics and dungeons don’t make up for that loss of identity. Sadly, the makers of Lost Sphear have lost the thread.

Lost Sphear takes a little too long to really get going. Dungeons are tiny, its characters paper-thin, and the story far too predictable in its overuse of already overused plot elements. It’s a JRPG that struggles to add anything of value, perhaps to the point of reminding us why the natural evolution of the genre happened in the first place. Despite this, it’s rapid pacing is perhaps its biggest achievement. Even the smallest session can lead to a feeling of progress. Things start to feel a bit too repetitive in longer sessions, but playing in smaller bursts helps stop its generic tropes from grinding you down. At $50, though, it’s far too much to ask for something that purposefully refuses to reinvent the wheel. Even if it promises 40 hours over the last game’s 20.

Lost Sphear is an RPG that’s hard to recommend to everyone, offering a mixed and unbalanced experience. The combat is fast-paced, rewarding and challenging yet sometimes garish. The Spiritnite system is fantastic and yet the Vulcosuits feel undercooked. All in all, Lost Sphear offers an inconsistent experience that is ultimately brought down by an overwhelming sense of tedium and repetition.

Old school JRPG fans will find much to enjoy here, but the refusal to innovate does more harm than good for the genre’s reputation.

Lost Sphear, as with I Am Setsuna before it, is a beautiful, heartfelt bit of classical Japanese videogame storytelling. It’s not a game that you should be playing for the gameplay in so much as it wraps nostalgia and some more modern ideas together in order to tell something that is both memorable and soulful. It’s a beautiful, emotive game and with it Tokyo RPG Factory has cemented itself as one of my favourite JRPG outfits going around.

The characters are written as classic JRPG characters, with that cheesy, predictable sense that just makes one smile upon reading all of its charm. Fans of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and VII, and Ni No Kuni will find something in this game to cheer about. A beautiful return to form. I can only pray that more titles and IP come from this new, growing subsection of Square Enix.

It wasn't the best rpg ever or anything but it scratched the itch (and it's still the dynamic theme on my PS4). This game is fun for the fact of nostalgia. Little things here and there that make me laugh, remind me of something from one of the classic JRPG of the 90's, etc. I don't need a lot of new invention and steps forward in a throwback JRPG, I just want to relax and unwind and enjoy a game like this. This game is exactly that. A throwback JRPG. One thing I will say though, I think $39.99 should remain the sweet spot for these games from Tokyo RPG Factory. $50 is a bit much. But I'm not gonna knock the score for the price point. The story starts off perfectly for an old-school JRPG and the pacing is perfect so far. The soundtrack is stunning. Tomoki Miyoshi is fast becoming my favorite current composer. I have to say, as much as I love playing RPGs on my PS4, this game feels like it is truly HOME on the Switch. Lost Sphear has some good ideas and mechanics working together when it comes to battle, but everything else falls short and feels dull. The reused dungeons, backtracking, and slow-paced story don’t give me much to fight for, even if the end does come together in an interesting way. Sadly, the tedious grind through a milquetoast adventure is sour for far too long before coming together.
