That's how games, art, music, writing, culture itself and everything else works. Patenting the nemesis system is like patenting a color blue, or like patenting an the idea of a powerful corrupting item in storytelling. WB Games needs to back down on this.

The universe could be more developed too with a bigger map with more locations and also more diversity in the enemies and allies, but it's still a pleasant world to play in.The side activities are a little repetitive too, but the Army system is a true marvel and will provide infinite content, it took me 30 hours to finish the game with approximately 10 of them spend only to slaying captains (in other words expect 20 hours to finish the game at 100 percent).But the game shines thanks to its gameplay, clearly inspired by Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham series it also adds its own touch with the Wraith that gives you unique abilities like mounting wild beasts, controlling enemies or the nemesis system. I enjoyed every bit of the game.With Shadow of Mordor it seems Warner finally found the right formula to make great Lord of The Rings games, they still have to build on it, particularly increase the diversity in the game and not the same generics characters and story.

Great, great animations, fighting is engaging, fun and smooth. Man I had so much fun with this game, much better than AC. Despite the dark setup, Shadow of Mordor doesn’t offer any surprises. It’s a solid action-adventure spiced up with some RPG elements and a familiar license. As far as the license games go, Talion’s trek is well executed mesh of Arkham games and Assassin’s Creed. You could do a lot worse.

While there are a limited number of genuinely memorable landmarks in the world of Mordor, the real points of interest is the captains being hunted.

At first glance, this is "only" some Assassin's Creed game from the Lord of the Rings world. When you look at it again you see an immersive action RPG relying on fun and fancy combats that are plentiful here. Tolkien is still waiting for that proverbial game that would find them and in the darkness bind them, however, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is close to it.

Shadow of Mordor is the single best Lord of the Rings adaptation to date, and one of the very best third-person action games in many years.

In the beginning it can take quite a bit of finagling and I won't say that I didn't say some silent prayers to Cthulu and sell the soul of my first born to Satan trying to get a handle on the game. I opted to play the tutorial again, which solved all of my problems.I am, however, a LotR enthusiast, well that's a little too far. I should say that I very much enjoyed the books, movies and games. I found Shadows of Mordor (heretofore to be called SoM) a great deal. I found that the stealth options were fun, the ranged options were fun, and the swingin'-my-ranger-sword-in-yo-face options were fun too. There truly is something for each style of player, whether it be in your face, from the shadows, or a safe distance away. Sure, the game will force you out of your comfort zone, but any great game will, in my opinion.The game is also open world, so expect that you will find it easy to meander and fart around, but it is also easy to just follow the story lines. I enjoy that very much, because I like to roam and get far from the storyline, but I like to be able to get back to it when I want, and SoM allows you to do that.It combines innovate moves and ideas into the combat system, and rewards players for not always taking the easy way out. The leveling system isn't too fast paced, and although I haven't beaten the game, I feel like the abilities at the end will be well worth the work, time, and effort.The game isn't without faults, I can see how some people would get bored by killing throngs of Orcs. I am not one of those people, though. I hunt them down like the bastards they are.I feel that the Nemesis system bears some mentioning as well, because I think this is something that I have yet to see in another game, which makes it truly original, and originality should be rewarded! (I mean, sure it may be out there in other games, but I have yet to see anything similar to the Nemesis system as of yet.) By using the Nemesis system, WB and IE have introduced strategy into a sandbox hack-n-slash game.There is something to be said about replay-ability. First, I was very eager to play a game of LOTR after the last movie of the Hobbit. And I was very hyped to put my hands in Shadow of Mordor since I saw the first trailers almost a year ago. It met my expectations, and I literaly had to force myself to stop playing through the day, since the fun made too often me lose time perception. The game also had it's flaws: no epic LOTR huge war-battles, little character customization, little diversity of environments, and orcs, uruks and more orcs to battle (I wanted to slash some humans too!). But now to more serious issues:The graphics of the game are absolutely amazing, in every single sense. High quality shaders, textures, perfect movement animations that make your combats worthy of an action movie, and great facial expressions that increases the immersion and the feeling that the characters are alive. Because, honestly, these orcs are VERY alive. Be sure to download the 10Gb Ultra Graphics free patch and equip yourself with a good graphic card to experience the whole thing.The music is overall good and LOTR style. A few themes are particularly pleasant to listen to, while others go unnoticed, but all do just fine accompanying their respective scenes. The voice acting is just perfect.The gameplay is a 10/10. Never felt so good fighting on a PC videogame. The keyboard+mouse is extremely easy to use and ultra responsive. Talion does exactly what you want in the very moment you press the key, without delays. He can jump and climb through almost everything, and the two big countries you visit, while not as big as other open-world games like Skyrim, do fine in giving you this sense of a huge world that will be difficult to fully explore. Moreover, there's tons of things going on in the world: uruks hunting in the forest, orcs drinking and partying on their inmense fortresses, slaves revolting on a campament, and a large list of etc. The best of the gameplay is the nemesis system, this is, to summarize, a system that gives the characters the best artificial intelligence you have ever experienced in a videogame. The uruks have an impressive sense of awareness, they know exactly where they are, what's around them, who's around them, and they will often point all this through their dialogue. They also have very good memory, speaking about things that happened in their past encounters with Talion, or simply things another Uruk did to them in the past and how they want revenge. But it is not only about dialogue, they will act in consequence: how good I felt when I saw an uruk running away from me in the distance while saying "I'm out of here! I don't want him to throw me into the fire as he did with the captain!!", yea, that random captain I burned alive just yesterday... Another one, that was pretty tough, was apparently tired of me escaping from him many times, and the first thing he said when we met again was: cut his legs! He will never run from me again", after that, he pointed out that he would throw me off the bridge in top of we were fighting. It really impressed me how perfectly they recognice even little details on their environment. There's honestly no way to express how good this nemesis thing is, but you will notice early in the game, period.The story is pretty cool and in my opinion the developers where quite careful not to break with the official lore, while at the same time create an original story. I agree with some reviews that say it has not a huge amount of drama, but LOTR was never very dramatic imho. At least the game tells a chapter of the story that you have not seen in the movies, and it was interesting enough to keep me exploring the world seeking the bonus artifacts and memories that completed the lore. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit rushed, but at least it gave room for a sequel.In summary, the game is not perfect, but probably one of the best games of 2014.

A beautiful third-person action title that has deep role-playing game elements embedded firmly into it. You also get enormously detailed and deep environments, with unique enemies to populate it. This is simply a superb game.
