Given that the Switch shooter ecosystem is limited to begin with, up to this point people without access to a PC or another console have really had few choices available to them. Finally, World War Z (yes, based on the world from the movie) has shown up to try to satisfy the need to blow away the flesh-eating undead and… it’s OK. Since I’ve played hundreds of hours of Left 4 Dead and its sequel on PC and now Back 4 Blood as well, cutting back my expectations to look at a more humble attempt on the far less powerful Switch has been a challenge. There’s no denying that visually everything is a bit pixelated and muddy, which is disappointing, but I’ll at least note that for the most part the frame rate at least feels pretty decent, even if the general pace of the game being slower to begin with probably helps in this regard. My biggest complaint is just the lack of oomph to things, especially when it comes to the weapons and their sounds. The sounds of explosions and super-powerful weapons are plain anemic and I didn’t understand how much that adds to the experience before playing this compared to the other franchises I’ve enjoyed. I do recommend other more powerful versions over the Switch version, but the Switch version is not bad at all if that if your only option or you just enjoy having your games on Switch. If you like Left 4 Dead or Back 4 Blood, this game is worth a try. I honestly like this game quite a bit and plan to return to it from time to time.

World War Z may not do anything to really stand out in the genre, but that doesn’t mean it is not a fun time. The core of the game is very basic, and at times can feel like a simple reskin of other similar games, but that should not turn anyone away from checking it out. I would especially recommend it if you are looking for a zombie game on the Switch, as it is probably the best option out there for you.

You’ll have a particularly good time if you can get some friends to play through it with you, though it never quite takes wing the way you might hope. It’s no Left 4 Dead, but as that series has yet to make its way to the Switch, I suppose it doesn’t have to be. While it’s unfortunate you don’t get to play as Brad Pitt, or have much of an overarching narrative tying all the mini campaigns together, World War Z scratches that Left 4 Dead itch that I’ve been craving for a few years now. While it does eventually turn into a grind, facing off against swarms of hundreds of rushing zombies, it never ceases to impress with its technical prowess and core fun of shooting a mass of zombies.

If World War Z proves one thing, then how exceptionally good Left 4 Dead was more than 10 years ago. It tries to emulate the formula but in the end fails to replicate the good times.

I’d absolutely suggest giving World War Z a shot, even more so if you were a fan of Left 4 Dead. It really scratches that itch, namely a fun, zombie focused co-op shooter with a solid progression system that’ll keep you hooked for a while. So despite its association with a so-so horror film, World War Z manages to rise above its source material into something that I found to be a lot of fun.

Overall, World War Z provides a decent co-op zombie experience, despite some drawbacks. The weapons lack oomph, even when powered up, but they are still decent. The class system doesn't make anyone feel too different, but much like the weapons, there aren't any terrible classes. The locale changes are nice (even if the level beats remain similar), and the inclusion of standard adversarial multiplayer modes is also welcome. It's in real need of polish as far as matchmaking basics go, but it will satisfy those who have been waiting a long time for another co-op, zombie-killing experience.

World War Z doesn't hide its intentions. It's not a layered, in-depth survival sim. It doesn't try to be anything it's not. It's built around the horde effect, which it nails. They're like train wrecks: you can't stop watching them—except the train is headed straight for you.

Huge crowds of zombies that were in the film, a large list of weapons, 4 different locations: New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and Tokyo. There are real mistakes, but where we are, a world without mistakes, they always exist. Therefore, I put 9 out of 10.

Seeing the huge hordes running at you and then trying your best to gun them down with your tiny submachine gun is fun and challenging. Obviously being at mid to low budget it will come with its bugs, glitches and usual shenanigans you would expect when their not working with millions and millions of dollars of budget. The biggest and the most unfortunate flaw with game is its lack of content. With only 4 chapters and 3 episodes a chapter and each chapter being 20-45 minutes long it only took me 3 days of a couple of hours gaming to finish the story mode. The multiplayer is very mediocre but has a nice twist with adding in the zombies to be a threat along side other players. Also the story missions feel the same every time, same objective every second mission but in a different environment. Overall the game is pretty fun to play and CAN be a very enjoyable experience if you are a person who is easily entertained.

World War Z is a fine co-op zombie shooter. It doesn’t have the spark that Left 4 Dead had or the customization Killing Floor 2 had, but that didn’t stop me from having fun with the game. At a budget price, it’s a fine game that Left 4 Dead fans can have some good fun in, and seeing the hoard mechanics in play is something to behold. If you have three friends that are looking for a co-op game to plow through, you’ll find a fun on here even with the issues that it presents currently.

Throw down the money and come enjoy the world that was brought to us in the movie. You won’t see Brad Pitt in the game, but you will have one heck of a time either way.

World War Z offers a fun experience that, despite a few technical issues and some visual blemishes, utilizes its source material rather well. Whilst it would have been nice to see more focus on its story elements, its tense gameplay, its mechanical depth, and its decent variation across the board, largely offset its blatant downsides. Though clearly inspired by Left 4 Dead in its mechanics, World War Z plays differently. It doesn't have the same depth, which limits it to a simple way to let off steam, but it can offer some good memories for you and your friends.

Also would love it if they fix the clunky animation over all. Like if you compare the animation when you are on the character select screen, the animation look good and the characters feel like they have weight. But when you are actually playing it doesn't look or feel as good, especially when you swing your Melee weapon . Very clunky. I also which they had an adaptive difficulty like left for dead, instead of having to select a difficulty, have the game decide to throw you waves of enemies depending on how well you are doing. Hard to find players in the higher difficulty and doing something more adaptive will help with that. In the final stage of the scenario there needs to be more of a threat, like in left for dead. I want that feeling of uncertainty, that feeling of not knowing if i will make it to end, that feeling of making it to the boat, helicopter or truck with the skin of my teethI like the game, just needs more love and polish to reach the heights of L4D. I'm hoping they add more chapters and characters. World War Z has some moments that are an utter blast – the special zombie types and impending doom of a zombie tower bring pure excitement. However, these moments are few and far between, leaving a shell of game with very little content, a lack of creativity, a near non-existent story, and a disappointingly shallow progression system.
