What stands out the most are its characters, NPC's, enemies and bosses, they not only stand out in the visual section, but also in the convoluted nature of their conversations or in the hidden story behind them.The only bad thing is its controls, on many occasions they are a bit erratic and uncomfortable but other than that I don't see any other problem.I recommend it if you want a challenge, not a very big one to be honest, only the first hours are a real challenge, when you start to improve the mea culpa everything becomes more bearable.

The problems lie in the somewhat clunky controls and some bad design decisions in different areas though. You still get used to the controls after some time and at the end of the game it felt quite okay, yet I see why people could complain about the weighty and clunky feel of them. As said, the pixel art is the most gorgeous and stylized I've ever seen, there are some nice ideas in quests and world design and it felt really good to progress through the game (albeit difficult and time-consuming backtracking). One more thing to criticize: The music can be very monotone and uninspired sometimes.Overall I still recommend this game to anyone who is interested in the style and a brutally religious world. The game excels on conveying characters and that world.

Blasphemous combines extreme difficulty, some religious elements and a beautiful pixel-art-world in a truly fascinating way. Recommended for everybody who does not only want to be entertained, but also challenged.

Besides the astonishing art design and the rich and imaginative dark-fantasy world, Blasphemous doesn't know how to mix perfectly the different genres it belongs to.

Blasphemous treats the player mercilessly, but it's solid controls and mechanics, in addition to it's absolutely stunning aesthetics and complex and vast lore turns the game into fascinating (yet not flawless) experience.

Having a subtractive design at its core, Blasphemous doesn't fiddle with the tried-and-true Metroidvania formula. Instead, it keeps things simple and grabs the player's attention with its despondent imagery and its riveting atmosphere and world building.

Blasphemous is an absolutely stunning game everyone should see in motion. I loved it for the first 10 or so hours, but then it just continues to stay the course throughout. With a little more variety this could have been a true classic. Still this developer has some talent and I would love a follow-up with a little more flavor and a lot less bulk. On a purely visual scale this game has few equals and for that I can recommend it easily, just be aware that not much changes as far as game play goes throughout the entire journey.

Blasphemous is one of the most interesting metroidvanias recently. It offers a great gameplay and exquisite visual presentation. A simple sound production and several technical errors can be annoying, but they do not prevent you from appreciating the great quality of this game.

Just one more Metroidvania? Not really. Blasphemous has its own thing, with its grim, gloomy atmosphere and tight combats. We could have used some more save points though.

Blasphemous is a twisted take on religion and Metroidvanias, providing great combat, fantastic visuals and a world that’s soaked in both blood and well-written lore.

It’s probably one of the best looking indie games of the year, accompanied by incredibly effective notes of religious horror. More importantly, minus a few small gripes, it’s still a very enjoyable game to play through. Definitely one to sink into when the clocks go back in time for the dawn of All Hallows Eve.

Praise be to Blasphemous, for it’s an impressive game that has truly joined together the peanut-butter-and-chocolate-style union that is souls-likes and metroidvania games. While certain levels and enemies could benefit from a bit more polish, the end result is still a sinful delight filled with heavily-enjoyable combat, tons of areas to explore and secrets to uncover, and some jaw-dropping (if brutal) sights. It may be a game filled with countless unholy terrors, but it also oddly has a lot of love put into it as well, so don’t miss out on it (if you don’t mind the occasional nightmare).

All in all, I would have liked a bit more narrative narrative and a more level-focused skill design that would not let me search the needle in a haystack in the vast world alone.

Blasphemous takes a few well trodden genres and mashes them into something that is fun, rewarding and downright beautiful. Its story, themes and macabre nature will not suit everyone but I could not get enough of it. Its difficulty is near-perfect, not too hard but enough of a challenge to please most players. Metroidvania fans, Souls-like fans and gamers who want a challenge will revel in this games gorgeously crafted world. Its a brilliantly crafted experience that needs to be played.

Unfortunately the game is too bogged down with a high difficulty level that is more tedious than challenging, dragging the entire experience down into something I can hardly bring myself to play. Blasphemous is a beautiful game that I wish I could enjoy more, but the extremely high difficulty of combat and platforming simply does not mesh well with the amount of exploration and backtracking needed from a world as expansive as this one.

As it stands in its current form, I will say that if Blasphemous’ aesthetic interests you even a little, or if you’re a fan of metroidvania-style games, then it’s absolutely worth checking out in its current form. I will also say though that despite how good the performance is on the Switch version, there are bugs and animations/interactions that could use more tuning. Blasphemous in its current state is a strong entry in the genre, and definitely stands close to the top, but with further refinement, it could turn from an interesting title to a true must-play experience.

It's very clear that a lot of time and effort went into making this game look and sound as good as possible. If you're craving a well-produced Soulslike or Metroidvania and you don't mind slower combat and a one-note narrative, then Blasphemous will give you an intense fix.

You will enjoy with the epic battles from Blasphemous and its amazing retro art style, but this metroidvania action game doesn't reach its best version because a simple combat system and an irregular level design.

A brilliantly realized, brutal and bloody Metroidvania that is the next best thing to reading up on Catholic Martyrs while you whip yourself with a barbed cat-o-nine-tails.

Blasphemous is a great mix between Dark Souls and Castlevania. what we loved about it the most is how welcoming it was to its sorrowful world, it is simple but well designed. The pace can be slow though, as the moment to moment gameplay is less engaging than Castlevania's tight game design.

Blasphemous is hands down one of my favourite games of 2019. I wasn’t expecting it to be, but it’s one of those unexpected surprises; a gift that you didn’t think that you wanted but quickly becomes to be loved.
