The fifth is suited for chess veterans who are looking for a serious challenge. Surprisingly, Brawl Chess has no tutorial. No sweat off my back, but pretty thoughtless for a game advertised as kid-friendly. Brawl Chess does a great job of redefining the way chess is supposed to look. This approach has made the game more dynamic, fabulous and accessible to younger players, resulting in greater involvement of family and friends. There’s no internet functionality here, which feels like a missed opportunity. For a game like this, a lack of online matchmaking cuts replay ability quite drastically. Chess is great at teaching problem solving, decision making and raising children’s IQ scores. It is a versatile and thinking based game that will be great to share with the whole family. With only the two modes to play in, things can get dull fast. While it certainly isn't expected for a game to completely reinvent the game of chess, there could have been different scenarios or challenge modes useful for players wanting to improve their skills. Brawl Chess is strictly adequate. It’s hard to screw up chess badly, but as a video game, the aspiration in this take is average. While targeting kids with a cartoony, less violent take on the Battle Chess formula is noble, overlooking a tutorial is a head-scratcher, to put it mildly.

It might seem like I have had very little positive to say about Brawl Chess - Gambit on Xbox, but that’s because it enables players of all ages to play chess, and that’s about it. There are better options out there for the avid player, which makes this very hard to recommend. Don't let the funky visuals fool you: what's on offer here is a skirmish as opposed to a brawl.
