The overall aesthetics such as character designs and environments are exceptional and there is a lot of heart behind the protagonist. The issues come in with the battle system where enemies are extremely inconsistent, and tapping the reaction buttons can be tedious for a turn-based system. The voice acting and plot were also all over the place. 8/10 based on my experience and not on technical achievements

My only problem is that the loading time takes forever and there is a loading screen every time you get in to a battle, and battles are random encounters.
Overall, this is an impressive first title from a young indie studio. An enjoyable cast of characters with great designs combined with an incredibly solid battle system facilitate an engaging story full of twists and turns. It may not win any awards for pure originality, but we do stand on the shoulders of giants, and in this sense Cris Tales rises higher because of it.

Beautiful arttistic direction and OST, characters are well built, the story is deeper than the artistic direction would let you think. The mechanic of time powers could have been deeper too but there are some nice ideas and the main bosses will ask some reflexion from you. I didn't experience any bugs. And this is rare enough to mention it : every dialogs are (nicely) voiced.

Shoutout to the active timing mechanic for scoring bonus attacks and critical hits that I’ve always dreamed of in a turn based combat system. Also the time power mechanic brings a wonderful additional strategic layer to combat and exploration. Best of all, gamepass makes a game like this so much more discoverable and enjoyable. I highly recommend anyone with gamepass go and check out Cris Tales.

Cris Tales stumbles more than we would like it to. It's a shame because, with some adjustments, the game might have been a true classic.

I say this game is not worth it, animations are only 30 fps which causes an input lag when trying to land a critical hit. Also, this game has dark colors and the world is also very empty. the characters are very blurry and poorly animated. the story is good and the characters funny

Same again when the fight is over. This utterly breaks the enjoyment of playing.I can’t bear it anymore. Deleted.
Overall, this is a great game that is bogged down by a handful of issues. Many of the problems with this game come from the genre it’s replicating but Cris Tales still manages to add some new and exciting mechanics. Going forward it will be exciting to see what new and creative ideas Dreams Uncorporated thinks of next.
Cris Tales brings all the classic JRPG greatness and modernizes it in its own fashion. While the repetitive battles and numerous bad twists make the game lose the momentum, if you know how to cherish all that is great about it, you will have a great time.
Cris Tales is a game I was hoping I could heartily recommend. The game's lovely visuals deserve praise; they deliver even on the Switch. The adventures of Crisbell, the time mage and friends are more than suitably grand for an epic JRPG. Unfortunately, the loading times absolutely drain all of the magic out of this game on the Switch. If the other consoles perform better, then definitely check it out there. It truly is a shame technical issues like this hamper the game; it draws even more attention to other problems. I really do hope devs Dreams Uncorporated bring us some more fantastic game worlds. We might have to wait for an upgraded Switch, however.
While Cris Tales offers a stirring adventure — packed full of wit and character — numerous mechanical shortcomings frequently put the brakes on its excitable spirit. A victim of unfulfilled ambition, Cris Tales doesn’t quite deliver on its clever premise or its chrono-combat. There’s no denying the passion and talent of the developers, however, manifested in stunning visuals and a wonderful cast. Cris Tales will definitely ostracize some players, but those with a little patience may see past its flaws to embrace its heartfelt homage to gaming’s bygone era.

But at the same time, there is also a lot of game-breaking bugs, attack animations that weren't properly telegraphed, and infuriating random encounters rate.
A clever RPG that combines traditional turn-based gameplay with time manipulation to present an interesting story through many different locations. The story features some time-based puzzling and side-quests that make subtle (or less subtle) changes to the world around you. The random encounters and save points don't add to the fun of the game but in all, a quality, fun RPG.
The journey itself Crisbell and co take doesn’t hit the highs the striking aesthetic conjures, but Cris Tales delivers on a satisfying-if-uneven twist to turn-based RPG affairs.
It's a shame that Cris Tales' design held promise for something grander and although it tries to do something innovative with the combat and the implications of our decisions, the end result leaves the impression of a somewhat lite version of its best influences. Maybe we'll get there on their next game.
Cris tales is a beautiful game with a timeless art style and a true love letter to those 16 big JRPGs from my childhood. A striking mixCris tales is a beautiful game with a timeless art style and a true love letter to those 16 big JRPGs from my childhood. A striking mix between final fantasy and chrono tigger, the game incorporates classic turn based combat with an interesting time travelling battle mechanic through the use of “time crystals” executed by the main character. The first two acts of the game run rather well, discovering beautiful new locations, story beats and new time powers. However, despite an interesting plot twist, the last act tends to let the game down somewhat with a disappointing, rushed ending. For JRPG fans this game is a must play, especially if you have a gamepass subscription or for a JRPG newbie, the difficulty works well with a lot of room for error. I really don’t know if the time Cris Tales has taken from my life was fully worth it. There were definite ups throughout my adventure, but the frustrations mitigated my excitement somewhat.
It's not so much that less could have been more here, but rather that it fails to replicate what made those classic JRPGs so beloved.
Maybe Cris Tales has an audience among very small children but in almost every case you’d be better off digging up an old copy of Chrono Trigger. That said, this is Dreams Uncorporated’s first game, and while I'd hardly call Cris Tales a good game, it shows considerable promise in visual flair if nothing else. I’ll be curious to see where they go from here.

Cris Tales succeeds in what it sets out to do. It isn’t as good as Chrono Trigger but is still a very good RPG in its own right. I hesitate to call it a JRPG as it doesn’t have that feel, but is still as competent and enjoyable a game as I’ve played in a long time, all helped along by a great art style, enjoyable time-bending mechanics and a story that will keep you hooked.

The unique time crystal manipulation system both in and outside combat helps it stand out, as well as side missions that can help shape the main story and multiple endings. It's far from perfect however. There are long load times before and after every fight and area change as well as controller disconnect and sign-in issues throughout, and the more rare stat bugs, but I feel none of these are big enough problems that can't be ironed out with updates in the future. I recommend this exclusively to players interested in a fresh new take on classic style J-RPGs that don't hold your hand.

For example, the fights are really great and time also plays an important role in the gameplay. The story with the different characters can also gradually please. Unfortunately, the game balance and the random battles are not always good and drive us crazy from time to time. On the other hand, the graphics and sound are once again convincing. So fans of the genre will have to take a look themselves to see if "Cris Tales" convinces you or not.
Cris Tales‘ number one selling point is its use of time manipulation as both a plot device and battle mechanic. It’s what makes the entire experience. It’s a solid mid-range game, great for teens and adults looking for a fairly breezy thirty-ish hour adventure. However, there are better games out there that you should experience first, especially if you have to be more selective with your cash.
Cris Tales claims to be a “love letter to classic JRGs” and it has all the elements that make up a great JRPG by bringing back things we’ve missed about the older classics but it hasn’t quite executed them as well as I’d hoped. The combat was easily the best part of Cris Tales but this was unfortunately ruined by loading screens/times; I hope they can get this fixed ASAP so the game can receive more credit. This is one of the few, maybe only, games I’ve played where my experience was ruined by a mix of technical issues.
Cris Tales is a beautiful 2D JRPG with an interesting story and great use of time manipulation. Each of the characters are unique and bring something different to each battle. The way the screen splits to show you the past, present and future is delightful to see and invests you into the game to try and improve the future, while using time powers in battles is well executed and kept me keen on trying different strategies. Hopefully the slow movement outside of battle and the fact there is no difficulty slider doesn’t put people off as there’s a lot to enjoy here in this stunning looking JRPG.
Cris Tales take inspiration from many RPG games that shaped players in Latin America. Despite its ups and downs, its a good and attractive is an adventure that will keep you entertained for hours. Thinking of it as an entry level RPG, Cris Tales goes as a solid recommendation; it's not something to write home about, but it is worth it and, without a doubt, it's one of the most interesting games created in Latin America.
Overall, Cris Tales is a charming tale, a great JRPG, and a memorable experience, with plenty of replay value. The characters are endearing, while the story is based on the innocence of childhood. It is almost like a time travel experience taking you back to when your parents used to read you bedtime stories. You can feel that the team poured their heart and soul into the game making it a game that will convince everyone willing to try it, even if they usually do not like JRPGs. It has some issues and for some, the visuals might be too colorful or cheerful, but it is an adventure worth playing through.
Cris Tales is a fantastic JRPG that blends enough traditional mechanics with new ideas to keep it feeling fresh and innovative. It features an engrossing world you’ll long for more hours to explore and absorb.
Cris Tales turned out to be a pleasant surprise, managing to impress us for originality and artistic style, as well as interesting gameplay mechanics. Even if it shows a certain inexperience in the general balance of pace and powers, with some of them too overpowered making it almost useless to look for different combinations, it still remains a great homage to classic turn-based JRPGs, so we can only recommend everyone to give it a look.
Cris Tales is one of the best independent games from Latin America. Without a doubt, one of the titles of 2021 that you cannot miss.
There is an insane amount of loading screens in this game, even before and after every random encounter which is insanely annoying. BeingThere is an insane amount of loading screens in this game, even before and after every random encounter which is insanely annoying. Being forced to wait 10-15 seconds before and after each battle just makes me want to quit playing.
Cris Tales is an enjoyable experience if you go into it with the right expectations. It's an easygoing ride through a colorful world that, while somewhat uneven & unpolished, is a comfy & familiar adventure. The interesting time mechanics that help the game stand out unfortunately never realize their full potential, and the storyline falls a bit rote, but my experience with Crisbell and company was still a pleasant one.
The developers of Cris Tales set out to make a love letter to the genre. When writing a love letter it's easy to cloud your judgement at times. You're after all so head over heels into it. Do you really care what others think? The load times, basic story, and unsatisfying ending are easy to overlook when you're in love with the genre. Cris Tales is too pretty to pass up if you want a taste of a nostalgic JRPG.
With its innovative concept and charming artistic direction, the first title from independent studio Dreams Uncorporated has enough to convince fans of traditional turn-based RPGs looking for a unique experience with a solid foundation. In addition, the accessibility of the title represents an excellent introduction for those who would like to embark on their first J-RPG. Ultimately, Cris Tales sins mainly by some technical details to be reworked.

Random mobs encounters are fine moderately, but this is just too much and wears you out for getting a chest or two, and just feels bad not being able to flee 5 times in a row. The encounter transition is also not very good, just a white loading screen with no music change until loading completes ruins the immersion.
Cris Tales tells a charming JRPG tale in a gorgeous and weird world, but it's hobbled by incredibly monotonous combat. Its battles undoubtedly overstay their welcome, but this unique odyssey still manages to shine through them a bit thanks to its style, characters, and the inspired (non-combat) time travel mechanics that make it so memorable.

Its battles undoubtedly overstay their welcome, but this unique odyssey still manages to shine through them a bit thanks to its style, characters, and the inspired (non-combat) time travel mechanics that make it so memorable.
So while Cris Tales’s story and gameplay may come up a bit light for some, it manages to provide a fun, unique experience that, rather than simply imitate the games that came before it, takes inspiration from them and strives to build something unique.
Cris Tales is a stunningly gorgeous indie, with art that’ll make your jaw drop. However many of its time mechanics are relatively skin deep, and it lacks the kind of depth its art inspires. It’s also not the epic it claims to be. It’s a love letter to classic RPGs, if within that same analogy those classics are the full novel.

Cris Tales is carried along by a good story and an extraordinary art direction that tell of heroic acts, self-acceptance, courage, revolutions and hopes in a "fairytale about time". His non-linear tale is based on a classic JRPG gameplay but it's able to present itself with its own clear and distinct personality, unique mechanics and good ideas, trying to give depth to the combat system. Unfortunately these possibilities do not match well with the lack of strategic situations and the very high frequency of random encounters does not help to make the most banal encounters less unpleasant. Cris Tales remains a well done game, but could have offered much more.
If you listen to Cris Tales talk, it sings with love for its influences. But sometimes, maybe we can love too many things. The game is remarkable on a variety of fronts, notably its look, its sound, and its love for Colombia. All of that works. But it feels the weight of its many influences. Eventually, when the developers throw so many things at the wall, it starts to get messy, with a story that tries to do too many things, combat that never fully lives up to its potential, and a bloated run time. Still, I’d rather love too much than not enough. Cris Tales might talk about more than it should, but I kind of love it for that.
The overall design choices and visual presentation of Cris Tales are one of its stronest suits. The game looks like an animated film, and paired with lots of calm and relaxing tunes, you get a very cozy atmosphere that feels nice to get back to every single time.
The basic idea with the time crystals is great and provides the combat system a special tactical aspect. The graphics look nice and Crisbell is a pleasant heroine. But while there is nothing that really makes Cris Tales stand out of the JRPG genre, there are also some annoying weaknesses concerning balancing and comfort that can't be justified by trying to be classic.
Cris Tales is a classic example of a game that serves as a homage to games of the past, while managing to forge a path all of its own. Solid and satisfying combat merge with a storyline that moves things along nicely and if you enjoy turn-based RPGs, Cris Tales is definitely one to play.
