All these are included in the Wii U Edition as well. Despite it’s flaws, if the switch is the only system you have, than it’s worth getting. It’s still Minecraft, and you’ll still have lots of fun. It’s just not a good way to play if you have other options.

Survival is also fun to play, but I only do so with friends, as the experience skyrockets during multiplayer. But this game is also a bit too simple, with making a new game being a bit dull and uneventful. It also doesn't help that the customisation is locked behind a paywall that makes Bethesda's Creation Club look generous. Skin packs, map packs you name it. For something that PCs get for free? Greed over need, for sure. And the fact that mods don't exist, a reason why the PC version is superior, brings it down a bit more. This game isn't bad, far from it, but contains a couple things that I don't really enjoy.

From there, I also have to let you know that in my opinion Minecraft should only be played on PC with a mouse and keyboard in order to get the full game experience and control scheme that feels right. Now that you know my prejudices I can continue. This is easily the best CONSOLE port of this game. HD, portable, playable on TV, Nintendo themes, you really cannot beat this port of the game if you have to play it on PC. My only issue with the game comes in the wonky controls used in console ports, but that is an issue I have across all console ports of the game. It doesn't feel good to sprint, navigate menus, or even place objects, but nonetheless, Minecraft is a game that needs to be played by everyone young and old, and therefore this version must be played if you have no other (superior) way to play it.

On a console seemingly packed with intense, time-consuming games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Shovel Knight, Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition feels like a breath of fresh air. With its endless possibilities and freeform gameplay structure, it can be as casual or intense as you want it to be. Minecraft Switch Edition is a strange animal, largely focused around a competent, if simplistic survival game and supplemented with worldbuilding that you can share with maybe one friend who also owns this edition of the game. Stripped of the game’s best aspects and with a limited amount of skin packs, much of Minecraft’s appeal is lost. Split-screen co-op and portability options do what they can to entice an audience, and may attract some eager to expand their Nintendo Switch library.
