Afterbirth is basically a love letter to the base game, introducing items and mechanics that perfectly entwine themselves with the main game to improve and compliment the already unforgettable experience that is The Binding of Isaac. If you liked Rebirth, you’d be doing yourself a major disservice by not treating yourself to Afterbirth.

If you've already bought The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and you like it, then Afterbirth is basically an essential purchase. On the contrary, if you couldn't engage with Rebirth, then there is absolutely nothing here to change your mind.

Afterbirth is a great piece of DLC with some hiccups that are not game-breaking, but it needs to be patched before I am willing to spend as much time with it as I have with Rebirth.

Nicalis has shown up the majority of developers with Afterbirth, highlighting how overpriced and lacklustre some Season Passes can be. The Binding of Isaac fans will be overjoyed with this rather generous package, which is filled to the brim(stone) with new content that will keep you greedily returning for more.

'Afterbirth' is an expensive addition when compared to its base game, but it is truly an expansion. To the right player it will provide far more entertainment than a AAA season pass typically would, and at a fraction of the price.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth deserves every member of its rabid fanbase. The game is is filled with so much to find and explore; there are innumerable secrets to discover and things to figure out. Afterbirth adds more of that and anyone who enjoys the original would be well served to download this pustule-covered add on.

The game is repetitive after a few short hours in terms of bosses and enemy gameplay mechanics (the game would benefit massively from probably double the amount of bosses currently available).The second issue I have is with the pickup system - I get that the style has been done deliberately to add something different beyond just "health up", "power up" etc, but so many items have absolutely no explanation as to what they do whatsoever, resulting in a frantic Google search. Yes, you'll learn them through trial and error eventually, but you shouldn't have to do that - there should be an in-game encyclopaedia or a better designed tooltip to give you a heads up.For the price point, it's one of the better indie titles and a game you'll regularly go back to when you want a quick 20 minute blast of gaming action. It will be interesting to see if the dev can build on a really solid foundation with this idea further after the Afterbirth expansion and make this a really varied, legendary roguelike twinstick shooter in the future.

McMullen did it again. With the latest expansion The Binding of Isaac got bigger, better, and it became even more of a virtual drug (if that was even possible). New items, new challenges, a new character, new room layouts, new bosses, new transformations, new soundtrack, new floors, and the list goes on. This is the expansion we were hoping for. Nicalis did us a solid and stuffed a disgusting amount of content in a game already bursting with disgusting content. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to kill Mother for the thousandth time.
