However, it feels like for every few things that Visage does right, it does something not so right.In particular, the UI and controls definitely could've used more polish and testing. I played through the entire game, and it never really felt like I ever got used to how the inventory and menu systems work. The game explains it well enough, but in execution it gets a little messy. It's not enough to ruin the game per se, but enough to nag at you throughout it all. Furthermore, the sanity system is weirdly implemented at times; something as simple as a clock ringing out in the middle of the night will cause your sanity to go down, while climbing down a rope of intestines doesn't effect it whatsoever. While some of this can be explained by story events, other times it just feels inconsistent.Your enjoyment of Visage will depend on how able you are to look past these flaws, as they never really go away. However, as mentioned before, the game does have some genuinely creepy elements to it, and the story goes in a wild direction that'll assure you won't forget the game anytime soon. I'd recommend it if you're a fan of atmospheric horror games, but do be warned that the game does have some noticeable bumps and hiccups here and there.

Running away from creepy dudes is always tense, but why am I here? Where am i running to? What is the point if I don't have any context for any of this stuff? Just give me at least a little bit of context before you make me walk through this same corridor for the fifth time!I think the developers built a series of spooky environments, some spooky looking enemies, made everything real dark and spooky-like...then they figured out what the rest of the game was meant to be about. Well...I need more of a purpose to s*** my pants.

Jump scares where present here with some tension but it's so few and far between that I can't drag myself through the muddy story to get to it.

Instead of employing trivial jump scare tactics, Visage expertly toys with your senses and messes with your head, first causing uneasiness, and then evoking authentic fear. There’s no reason to weep for the cancelled Silent Hills anymore. We’ve got Visage, the best horror game of the year, maybe even the best in years.

Visage has so much going for it as a horror experience that even the most frustrating control issues are easily forgiven. The deep themes of dread and trauma may be too much for more casual gamers who just want a good jolt, but Visage is an absolute must for hardcore horror fans looking for some substance behind their scares.

As a psychological horror that uses one of the most iconic horror games of the last-gen as its inspiration, it works incredibly well. I never thought walking down a hallway in a game could fill me with such dread, but every single staircase, hallway, and door ramped my anxiety all the way up. In all honesty, for the first couple of days, I could only play it for 10 minutes at a time before I had to call it quits. As someone who watches horror movies all the time, getting me to tap out before you even scare is a feat to be proud of. By that measure, Visage should be bursting with pride!

Although quirky, Visage is a thrill to play as the random events can change your experience with the game each playthrough, but playing it more than once will remove most of the thrill by knowing the jump scares and harder puzzles. I hope SadSquare studio continues to add to this title, as it can benefit from it, and it deserves to be played by the horror genre fans. I managed to solve all puzzles and earn all 27 achievements for 1,000 gamerscore in Visage in roughly 12-15 hours.

A terrifying and unnerving experience to play, Visage pays tribute to those that came before it spectacularly. A few minor issues won’t spoil the fun, but you won’t help but notice them as you uncover the truth. You have been warned.

Visage isn’t going to be for every horror fan. It’s slower pace, difficult puzzles and lack of direction are going to make many struggle, but that’s also kind of the point. For every moment where I didn’t know what to do and felt like I was on a wild goose chase, there was another moment of gratification for finally figuring it out. Throughout all of those moments, I was scared and that’s indicative that even if I didn’t, Visage knows what it’s doing.

Visage is a game survival horror fans must experience for themselves at least once to fully appreciate, even with its flaws. Watching the game through the eyes of a streamer simply does not compare to the masterful way it manipulates its players emotions and tension levels. Some of these events are randomized, which on paper sounds amazing but it ends up being more annoying than terrifying: picture yourself turning on a light switch to explore a room and then having it turned off every other time: it's effective the first couple of times, and it grows very old very quickly. Scares are guaranteed, though, as the game makes excellent use of audio and visual effects to put you on edge. The house feels truly invaded by a presence, and furniture and clothing and shadow play make for outstanding nightmare fuel. I'm no stranger to first person horror games myself: played my fair share of titles such as Amnesia, Slender Man, or even System Shock back in the time, and even still Visage gave me a lot of goosebumps and got me hyperventilating many times. So, if you are into these sort of things, you might want to give it a try. Still, be warned that some technical issues bring the whole experience down. First and foremost, inventory management is overly complicated and is also married to a counterintuitive control scheme. Second, be prepared for a lot of wandering around. Objectives are seldom clear, and I found myself lost inside the house for a couple of hours before I gave up and checked a walkthrough, only to find that I had to interact with a single object to progress the plot. A single object, shown during a cutscene, in a massive house. Granted, exploration plays a major role in horror games, but I feel that the game could work better ways to communicate its ideas to the player. It doesn't help that the house shifts, and you have to find that one affected door or room to make progress. And if you missed it, tough luck, keep wandering around. If this sounds like it's right up your alley, then you won't be disappointed. Personally, even though I really wanted to like this game, I grew bored after a few hours.

Visage is quite possibly the most oppressive experience we've had since Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The variety of gameplay and terrifying set pieces make this surreal nightmare of human psyche and things lurking in the dark, a must play.

Visage is a survival horror that tries in every way to shake off that walking simulator aura that is so easy to put on it. On the one hand it succeeds in its intent, thanks especially to the proposed puzzles and the remarkable longevity. However, much of the experience is still tied to a limited script and the freedom of movement within the house is only apparent. The obsessive bactracking and the very slow pace of the action end up limiting the ambitions of the game, which remains - in any case - a raw and terrifying experience. Visage represents a considerable step forward compared to the usual horror rides proposed by the competition, but not enough to approach the classics it is inspired by.

Visage feels like the culmination of ten years of indie survival horror. A fantastic (and terrifying) game that doesn’t really do anything new, but does everything really well.

It would be a good game if it was release years ago, because the graphics it is one of the worses of this last generation. I would advise to watch the walthrought in the Internet. Visage is one of the most terrifying games I’ve ever played, full stop, but it’s not going to be for all horror fans. The game’s perplexing puzzles, convoluted story, and rough edges will turn off some, but if you can stick it out, there’s a good chance it will eventually sink its hooks into you. Good horror can take time to process, and I believe Visage’s dark presence will only grow with time.

Visage takes over from P.T. and offers a title of psychological terror that will delight lovers of horror and the supernatural. One of the most chilling games in the history of video games.

You could have put ‘Silent Hill’ at the front of the title and we would have called Visage a return to form. Ultimately, this is an exercise in stretching PT to a full house, which is almost entirely successful, with masterful scares and near constant tension.

Visage creates a palpable playground for fans of horror to revel in, tapping into different flavors of fear to create an unsettling experience. All too often, genre titles fall back on repetitive jump scares and shock value, but Visage lets the house burn into your brain and leaves you questioning every decision to open a door or descend a staircase.

I don’t think ANY horror game, not even PT, Amnesia, Outlast, or Alien Isolation, or movie can hold a candle to what this team have created with Visage. The intro immediately sets the tone and is the most disturbing and uncomfortable I’ve ever experienced. SadSquare have taken the best elements of PT and expanded on its ideas, improved its flaws and others in the ‘haunted house’ genre (most notably its open-ended design that leads to more tension and unpredictability), and paved its own path. Visage is the new horror benchmark.

Incredibly excited to finish it. Atmosphere is so tense, and that sticks with you throughout, so scary in parts i needed to take a few breaks in between. Any fan of horror games, do not miss this, play it and invest in the finished game.
