Beautiful aesthetic, relatively fun combat and nice story concepts. But as the game unravels the world starts to feel smaller and smaller. The characters are rather generic and the will they/won't they shtick here is multiplied by 3. Main issue is that once you learn the most powerful move relatively early on, to save time you start spamming it constantly. There is not much incentive to vary things up as that single move is most powerful by far. By the end of it I turned the difficulty down to very easy to not waste time grinding and be done with it. There are some interesting mechanics for future games here, so I'll look out for the next instalment! Chemistry between the main leads was cute though.

It's definitely one of the Best RPGs I've ever played.

The combat system lacks depth. But above all, the game universe has no culture, no lore. It's really disappointing, you don't feel involved in the world of the game. And apart from a few uninteresting quests, there's no point in returning to the cities you've already visited. And the writing sometimes lacks finesse. Scenes between Rinwell and Law are ridiculous and not credible.
It’s not an absolute slam dunk for the return of the Tales series, but it’s a solidly-crafted JRPG with a great battle system and fabulous environments to adventure through. It’s a shame the dialogue and story don’t match the stellar work done elsewhere, but on the whole it’s still a trip well worth taking.

I have given Arise hours and hours now and not one of my hours with Arise has been as good as my worst hour with Zestiria. It has no charm, no mojo, it literally has nothing going for it.Really wishing I'd got Ys 9 instead now.Tales of Arise forces exploration as quests, then blocks your path with boring encounters. They really should have ditched the arena for battles and left the action to take place within the open world. It feels really dated, like Vesperia with a lick of paint but Vesperia was quite entertaining at times. Arise just feels bad. This game could have learnt a lot from Ys Origin on how to implement fun action. As I barely enjoyed any of this and it was an expensive game, as well as a present, I am pissed off. It has cost money, to waste my time. Hours of my time and now I need to drive to Cex to get rid. Not happy.Lowest possible score as this was the present I was most looking forward to. Gift ruined.

Improves on many graphical fronts, as well as maintaining a heart felt, pretty intelligent story and like-able characters. It's rare that I am able to finish an RPG in its entirety these days. This one I will absolutely be finishing though!

It's beautiful, the story is fun and the spells are diverse. THIS IS NOT the Witcher or Mass Effect. Your choices and dioligue mean nothing. Kind of like an 8-bit old school RPG. It's an interactive story. It's go here, do this, go here do this etc. ad nauseum. Kind of like an 8-bit old school RPG. So, if you think about it, it's a wildly upgraded old-school RPG. If you can look at it like that, without all the extras we've come to expect from modern RPGS (meaningful dialogue, non-linear open world), but with the more simple aspects of RPGS (story, graphics, spell choices, animation, amount of available dialogue) amazingly upgraded, than this is a 10 out of 10 easy. Best of all, it's got a heart. Don't expect the world with this game, and you'll get the universe.

Probably the best storyline in the Tales series. However, I think the gameplay mechanics need to improve as it's already getting dated. An RPG that presupposes exploration full of invisible walls doesn't work anymore. I think the series needs to migrate soon to a more ARPG style, like Scarlet Nexus.

Tales of Arise is not only now my favorite Tales game to date, even surpassing my beloved Vesperia, it’s easily in my top 3 JRPG’s of all time, deserving to be compared to and alongside the best of the genre, and hands down my Game of the Year pick for 2021 without any hesitation. A compelling and complex story, wonderful character development, addictive combat, plenty of side activities to partake in like fishing or farming, stunning visuals and perfect audio are just a few reasons I can’t recommend it enough. Tales of Arise was an unforgettable masterpiece that I’ll surely play through again on NG+ eventually and anyone that’s a JRPG fan needs to play, the sooner the better.
The Tales series makes a triumphant return with Arise, a game that delivers excellent, highly polished RPG action that stands above its predecessors. Despite being a RPG, Tales of Arise features a rich combat system that makes the title contend with some of the best action games released this year.
Tales of Arise feels like new blood in the Tales series veins, as it gathers all the qualities of the previous games, puts them together and takes them to the next level.
Tales of Arise is a strong addition to the "Tales of..." series that will surely satisfy those looking for a worthwhile JRPG experience. However, we must point out the timidity shown in not innovating and limiting itself to a standard scenario and a predictable structure. Perhaps that's why people love the series: because they know what to expect. So, if you do too, feel free to invest in Tales of Arise.

I would have loved to see after ending events of what happened between the characters that would have concluded the story a bit farther. The combat is not balanced, some boss was a lots harder i had to actually drop the difficulty. The AI is not that good, your friendly characters will not avoid danger. I feel the game was made so that you have to take DLC at one point.. if you don't you will easily have to grind a lots. Other than that i really liked the game, the characters developement are really amazing, i felt sad to lets them go at the end.
Tales of Arise proposes new ideas for a long-lived series where we thought we had already seen it all. After this, the franchise can no longer go back to what it was before. Because of its story that touches sensitive topics, improvement in art direction, and a more complex battle system, Arise stands next to Symphonia as one of the best games in the series. This is an adventure that you will remember for years.

Overall, it sometimes feels like just moving on from each area to the next, with not much else in-between. Tales of Arise is a beautiful game to look at, but the game goes by too quickly due to the relatively limited side-questing. The last release in the Tales series, Tales of Berseria, offered a lot of gameplay in terms of extra content, and the story was enough to wrench your heart out. Tales of Arise offers a very compelling story but not much else in terms of extra gameplay.
A really good JRPG.I had a really fun time playing Tales of Arise and, after almost 100 hours spent with the game, when I think back whatA really good JRPG.I had a really fun time playing Tales of Arise and, after almost 100 hours spent with the game, when I think back what I enjoyed the most, I think the answer is “mostly all of it” but, particularly, it’s the combat. The improved action combat never felt boring to me, never felt like a chore and always made me want to engage into those enemies while roaming around the different areas, I barely skipped any enemies because the combat is just enjoyable. The one thing I would’ve loved as an extra bonus is the ability to cancel artes, or at least the normal attacks, into a dodge, but it is what it is, I got used to it.The different playstyles of each party member were also very well realized, there wasn’t a character I didn’t like and using them was very fun and interesting. The Boost Attacks and Strikes mechanic works pretty well and the epic animations that happen for the Strikes aren’t long at all, so it’s always a joy watching them over and over, they’re really well done. This game uses Unreal Engine 4 and I think it was a good decision to switch to a modern and versatile engine at last, because the older custom engine was showing its age. With UE 4, Arise shows that it’s a good engine for JRPGs, and especially combined with the new graphical effect they chose for the graphics here. But the PC port has launched with certain flaws, like a very poorly implementation of Steam Input, which made certain Xbox Controllers not work for many people, and needed to tinker with the Steam Settings, or a severe lack of proper Draw Distances that makes any NPC disappear from view 10 meters away from the player, and not only NPCs but also Shadows and most Geometry in general, had very obvious popping issues. The game also had resolution issues on certain screen setups, lack of proper ultra-wide support and stuff like that. Some of the issues have been partial or fully fixed by some awesome members of the community but, that’s no excuse, and Bandai Namco should at least release a proper patch for all these issues. They’ll probably take their sweet time though, if the issues are ever officially patched, that is : )Aside from those problems, which won’t affect everyone in the same way, my personal experience was that of a game that runs relatively smoothly, I had zero crashes or performance issues, so in the end my experience was quite enjoyable, once I downloaded a mod to increase the View Distance. On my R5 3600 and RTX 3060 Ti the game runs quite fine even at 1620p DSR Downsampling and after I used a mod to unlock the Unreal Console, I could raise the internal scale to 170-180% and still stay at 60 FPS.The story in Arise is quite “familiar” if you have played other games in the series, or JRPGs in general, with the usual twists and turns. I liked it, and the characters are well written and acted.Played in English voices, and instantly recognizing Ray Chase as Alphen (Noctis from FFXV), and Erica Lindbeck as Shionne (Magilou from Berseria, Vita from Trails of Cold Steel) was quite fun, and the actors for the rest of the cast also did a really good job.Having Alphen react to fish in the water reminded me instantly of Final Fantasy XV, which had incredible fishing mechanics, it was so fun, so hearing the same voice actor say similar lines here was quite a throwback. He’s not the fishing expert in Arise though, but that’s okay, because Kisara is also a really excellent character. The new format for Skits, being fully 3D presented in a comic-panels style does work very well, I still like Zestiria and Berseria’s skits more, when it comes to style, but the new ones really made me realize that the change wasn’t bad at all, and I loved some of the more funny ones, there are a ton of them. The soundtrack in general is really high quality, and the new battle theme is very good, reminded me of some of Nihon Falcom’s themes, which is a good thing, but then some of the most epic pieces are just used in areas where you don’t expect such ominous music, like just walking around or something, haha, but that’s alright. The “Formidable Foe / Giant Zeugle” theme is back and remade for this game, once again, and that’s also nice to listen to when fighting these giant enemies.Overall, sound design could’ve been a little bit better because once in combat the music is quite overshadowed by the characters voices but…that’s usually what happens in the Tales series. All in all, this is one of my favorites games this 2021, I have enjoyed great JPRGs on the PC this year, like Trails of Cold Steel IV and Ys IX, both magnificent games with most excellent PC ports, and then with Arise I had a lot of great times with it, just as much as with those other two JRPGs I mentioned, despite the port not being up to those standards, but still quite enjoyable nonetheless. An 8/10 due to the mild PC port issues, hopefully they patch it.
For its 25th anniversary of the franchise, Tales of Arise doesn't only get a new exciting look, but the action RPG also delights with a dark, mature setting and presentation.
Tales of Arise is the perfect revamp for the saga after its 25th anniversary. A more accessible title for JRPG lovers, with surprising characters and story.
Tales of Arise is so well done with the story, graphics, battle system, music, characters and voice cast that it is a must-play for anyone. Even if you aren’t normally a big fan of role-playing games the story is so compelling there is a lot to love here.

Even masterful games such asFor the longest time, I've felt like I needed to play an RPG that scratched the proverbial 'itch' if you will. Even masterful games such as FF7 Remake, Witcher 3, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and others really weren't igniting anything in me that kept me engaged for even half an hour. On a whim, I decided to purchase Tales of Arise and try it out. Man. Let me tell you. One of the best purchases I've made this entire year in terms of gaming. The cast of characters are so intriguing, and each of them have dynamic and thoughtful backstories and motivations. The voice acting cast is absolutely fantastic. Honestly in a world where most people skip cutscenes or speed through dialogue, doing so in this game would be a complete disservice to the amazing plotline, and even yourself for missing out on some of the really thought and feeling provoking interractions and story arcs. The battle system is the icing on the cake here, with a near seamless combination of tactical and free flowing combat that feels somewhere between vintage RPG and Devil May Cry. Every single time I play this game, finding a stopping point seems harder and harder, as the impulse is to keep playing to see where the story is going next. Plus, you cant help but to feel emotionally invested in the characters and their goals and motivations. If I could rate this game higher than 5 stars, I definitely would
As a result, we have a very highly detailed game where the story and gameplay are equally worthy of attention. Tales of Arise features a bright living world, peculiar charming heroes, dynamic battles that will keep you interested 50 hours in, interesting boss fights and exciting quests.

I remember when I was in middleI am the type who yearns for (1) medieval-like fantasy and (2) party adventure when it comes to RPG games. I remember when I was in middle school getting so attached to the world-building, story, music, and characters in the games like Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger. Later in high school, I got my PlayStation 2 with Final Fantasy 10. I was so absorbed with these fantasy games to a point that I can still reminisce very clearly the events and the journey that I experienced from these games. These games have impacted me so much that they shape me into what I am now.It has been so long since I felt like this until I play Tales of Arise. Although my playtime on the game while writing this review is just around 20 hours and probably around a third (or maybe half? I don't know) of the main story, I am enjoying my time so much with the game, combat, story, exploration, etc. Tales of Arise has a good medieval fantasy world-building and a group of friends with distinctive personalities. I am usually fond of mage classes in every fantasy game so I am mainly playing as Rinwell. The variety of magic is awesome and the ability to combine magic is fun as hell. Playing Tales of Arise gives me the feeling that I am inside that fantasy world and adventuring together with the party. Especially within the combat where they smash the enemy and help me on their own, it just feels like they are all real people fighting and adventuring together with me.Western RPGs in general give you a feeling like you are solo playing and the story plot and combat system are usually one-main-character focused. These qualities are not in itself a bad thing but they are just not my preference. On the other hand, while there are modern Japanese RPGs that are enjoyable like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Scarlet Nexus, and Persona 5 that have the quality of party adventure that I love, they don't have a classic medieval fantasy setting that I am yearning for. You know, the classic medieval fantasy setting like the ones that you see in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 6, 9, 10 (and hopefully 16 too!!) or in the typical Japanese isekai manga/anime like Mushoku Tensei, Slime Tensei, Cautious Hero, Re:Zero, Shield Hero, etc.If you like these two qualities (ie. classic medieval fantasy and party adventure) you will probably be going to like Tales of Arise too. I am happy that Arise introduces me to the Tales series. I will definitely try some of the previous Tales games later.
Tales of Arise sets a new gold standard for traditional action JRPGs. This stylized adventure's presentation and lavish production is a treat for anime fans and RPG enthusiasts, and it brings new life to the long-running Tales series.
Tales of Arise includes the trademarks of the franchise and shows that twenty-five years of experience help to strive for perfection. Just like a good wine, the franchise has managed to get better with age. The battle system, anime-inspired visuals, and a story full of lovely characters are the stars of the show, which ultimately make a game that shouldn’t be overlooked. Tales of Arise is an entry that will satisfy die-hard fans and convert newcomers to the series with its awesome experience.
Tales of Arise is a great game and a significant step forward from its predecessor, a wonderful mix of bright narrative and excellent gameplay.
Tales of Arise is a genuinely exceptional JRPG that does little wrong. The reworked combat mechanics aren't perfect, but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't matter. Its storytelling, character development, visuals, accessibility, and PC version quality have all been produced to world-class standards. Bandai Namco should be proud, and fans should be thrilled.
Tales of Arise brilliantly succeeds in breathing new life into the Tales Of saga. With its universe and its successful characters, the title delivers a striking adventure that takes advantage of superb environments thanks to a unique graphic rendering. The fights are not left out either since they show great intensity with always more spectacle, sometimes even if it means confusing the action. If we can blame it for his clipping, its talkative side, or its redundant bestiary, we still salute its many qualities which suggest good for the future of the series.
Tales of Arise is one of the great adventures of 2021 with a bold, fresh take on the series, but one that stays true to many of the series' fundamentals. Spectacular and fun gameplay meets a deep story with all sorts of characters that will win you over in a big way.
Taken as a whole, Tales of Arise is a very good RPG, boasting beautiful visuals, a wonderful cast of characters, and engaging combat mechanics--but its flaws (and that odious DLC) are also difficult to ignore. If you're looking for a lengthy, charming, and engaging JRPG to play on your shiny new console or PC gaming rig, Tales of Arise is certainly a fine choice. Just don't go into it expecting an all-time classic.
After previous attempts only achieved half-measures, Tales of Arise finally takes the series in a new direction. There are sure to be veterans who lament some of the changes in the name of expanding the audience, but the risks taken here pay off nicely. The visuals are a marked improvement from any previous entry, and the combat looks and feels better than ever, even if it comes at the cost of losing some depth. Arise’s narrative admirably tackles some ambitious themes, though not all beats hit their mark. However, despite a few flaws, Tales of Arise is a fantastic RPG that stands as one of the best the series has to offer.
Tales of Arise is a Tales game through and through. It's polished and consistently enjoyable, and it features an excellent combat system. The story and characters are not particularly ambitious or distinct, but they give you a fun world to explore for the 40+ hour runtime. In an era where "safe" JRPGs are uncommon, it's nice to have one that does exactly what it promises. It's not the best or worst of the series, but it is a darn fun Tales title that lives up to the franchise's name.
Tales of Arise is a masterpiece with a deep story and endearing cast that will keep you hooked as you fight for freedom from tyrants. Meanwhile, the action-intense battles are great fun as you plan your moves to take down enemies as efficiently as possible. Exploring the dungeons and overworld is a joy, too, especially with new map abilities that make traversal engaging. It's the best Tales yet.
Indeed, Tales of Arise is a game designed for long-term Tales franchise fans and those who have never picked up a franchise entry before, where story, combat, and various features come together to deliver a high-quality, highly-detailed JRPG. All of that makes it not just one of the best JRPGs on the market today, but one of the best games hands-down.
Tales of Arise succeeds in giving the series new lustre with a mature, interesting story full of twists, a technical aspect that is suited to the current generation and a dynamic, fast and spectacular combat system. There is still room for improvement, but if you are a fan of action-RPG it is a game not to be missed.
Tales of Arise is an experience with good sides and bad sides. On one hand it is a great adventure in expansive and gorgeous environments, with a stellar action oriented combat system that might be the series best one so far. On the other hand the story – while interesting – is told in a really frustrating manner, with way toO much dialogue that has no real place or purpose.
Tales of Arise is not so much an evolution of the Tales series as it is an awkward game that backs up decent combat with a bland, uninspired story and characters.
Tales of Arise presents a refreshing sense of nostalgia in a shiny new package. At times it can misfire between its lovable but inconsistent cast of characters and political narrative, but there’s still a band of loveable heroes brandishing the classic Tales archetypes I’ve always adored. Perhaps it wields subtlety like a cudgel—placing Shionne, the woman who causes pain, and Alphen, the man who can’t feel pain, together—yet it’s that same ungraceful melodrama I remember being so fond of a decade ago. Arise elevates Tales back into the RPG spotlight, but it doesn’t leave the pieces of the past you loved behind.
Tales of Arise is the perfect example of how a franchise can renew itself and achieve new quality standards. It's a JRPG with beautiful visuals and a fun, complex and spectacular battle system: a great game that you should not miss.
